The day was bright with fall colors and sunshine when I walked into my first jewelry class at the Littleton Studio School on 21 Mill Street. The initial motivation for enrolling in this silversmithing class had more to do with me (a painter) than jewelry.  I was looking for a pleasant experience, not too difficult, in a totally different media. The need to MAKE something just for the pure pleasure of creating it was high on my list.  What I found was all of the above and much more.

The pottery and jewelry classrooms were well supplied, neat and very unthreatening. I found the instructors to be friendly and welcoming. They were artist members of the League of NH craftsmen and very good instructors. We students were a mix of motives and backgrounds. Computer analyst, teachers, homemakers and big game hunters (for real) were gathered at the Littleton studio school to acquire new knowledge, extend current skills, and make artful gifts for ourselves and others.  Each person achieved a high degree of success. The one day workshop just flew by. At the end of the three hour class I, a completely unskilled student, had a shiny silver pendent to take home.  It was exhilarating! I promptly enrolled in the upcoming Jewelry One class and the Guided Studio class. I have learned a lot about silversmithing and had so much fun. Mission accomplished.

However the more important revelation has been that making art in a classroom situation became a catalyst that generated significant change in my day to day life. I have worked more diligently at my painting, redesigned my living space, and have found pride in doing something just for me. Working creatively, no matter what you choose to do before or afterward, enforces thoughtful, artful energy.

Regretfully these fall sessions are coming to end. Fortunately, the next session is enrolling students right now! Feel something powerful and learn something new at the Littleton Studio School.  Call 603-444-1066 or e-mail: [email protected]
